Introduction
My name is Ryan Hankins. I am currently attending University of Washington. My major is ACMS (Applied and Computational Mathematical Sciences) and I will be minoring in Music, Mathematics, and Applied Mathematics as well.
I like to make web sites of all types. This website is to act as my web portfolio of projects that I have worked on, and of course, the projects I am working on presently.
I started designing web sites with a visual editor when I took a class in 1999 as a sixth grader called "Gen www.Y". The summer after that school year, I purchased a book and self taught myself HTML code. Back in those days most people made websites using HTML tables and no stylesheets. It was also popular in that day to put buggy JavaScript code on sites.
As a freshman in high school, I took three more computer oriented classes. The first was called "Visual Communications"; more or less a class about making basic websites, taking effective pictures, and making cool digital photos. The other two classes I took that school year were one the same called "Digital Design". It was a project based class with student-made goals. Those two quarters I started learning PHP, a little CSS, and helping the IT Adminstrator of the school with computer repairs schoolwide.
As a junior in college I took INFO 343: Web Design. The class was geared for making visually good looking websites that were effective. I also took CSE 190m, a class geared for learning actual languages such as XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL all in one quarter. Starting at this point in time, I felt I could make some great projects with my already large knowledge of web programming.
I work full time during the summer and part time during the school year as a "General Service Associate" [Valet/Bell Service]. In the near future, I will be pursuing a new job relating more to computers, technology, and the web. I have explored working for law enforcement and will be considering that, also.
Please take your time browsing this website. My best recommendations are looking through my portfolio. I have spent a good amount of time creating some awesome websites in the past. Valet Scheduler is by the far the most advanced thing I have made so far. It was fully functional for 3 weeks for use at the Waterfront Marriott Hotel in Seattle. Corporate required the account manager to switch to their online automated system at the end of the three weeks. I am still proud that I achieved this much with it, and I still believe that it is more powerful than the new system that company is using.
Without further ado, I present to you ryanhankins.info!
